So if you have replaced the solenoid already, then it must be the starter drive/bendix as Lars has stated. So I am waiting for a second. Stater bench tested good. My starter is making a loud whining noise after the engine starts. New issue developing with my 1950 Ford 8N. Lets not forget that a starter has a BENDIX which is a spiral-cut gear which is used to engage the starter-gear to the flywheel. The starter motor may need replacing if it’s not turning fast enough or if the part is seized. I have a gm regular style starter with the solenoid mounted on it. The type that a truck owner chooses depends on many factors such as the expected level of protection, price, compatibility, ease of use, and more. This can cause problems in clearing the flywheel. In short I will be asking a lot of the starter. This was caused because of the Bendix!!! The bendix is located in the recoil housing and is above the flywheel/stator. Jack's can get you the replacement Kohler starter drive parts you'll need to get back to work fast. This starter fires this 26hp Kohler Courage High Performance Pro V- Twin motor up every single time as expected without incident. Disconnect the battery, remove the cable from the starter and remove the starter and see what the starter drive looks like and go from there. Flaps will accurately deploy/retract with available hydraulic pressure. HOWEVER: The starter-motor still spins for a moment as it slows to a stop. That video is not really relevant to the 4Tec starter. Had it checked, rebuilt at Rudy's Armature in Rahway. Never seen an earth lead wether its battery or the engine strap cause this. But if it's spooling up too fast due to the engine starting before it retracts fully, that could be a starter bendix issue, or it's still shimmed too tight. replace starter drive or 3. There is no way the flywheel caused the starter to stay running with the car off. After finally hearing the term Bendix, I did a bit more searching. If the guy in the video can retract his bendix by hand, then I think his bendix is the one that is broken. I think that what was happening is that the bendix was working fine but not retracting correctly causing the teeth to bind with the fly wheel. The motor is not running. The engine has been inactive over the last 2 1/2 months. The "Electra Junior" name did not catch on in the way that the original Electra's name had. Ford uses two different offset starters. the bendix spring pushes the gear away from the flywheel when pressure is removed form behind the gear. If the belt breaks, or the pump does not work, it becomes hard to turn the steering wheel. I would have to agree that it sure sounds like the bendix is not retracting fully. Replaced the dendix too and it looks like i may have to remove the oil filter to get clearance. Please Note ; I cannot Guarantee that after watching this video you will fix your starter motor ! I am trying to help others who have same problem like i did and who want to do it themselves or.
